Meghalaya Government Directs KHADC to Lift Shillong Peak Ropeway Site Seizure

SHILLONG — Escalating its administrative intervention, the Meghalaya state government has formally directed the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) to immediately remove all locks and seals from the Lower Terminal Point of the Shillong Peak Ropeway project situated in Madan Laban.
The high-profile tourism initiative has faced persistent hurdles and bureaucratic delays, stemming largely from jurisdictional disputes and local regulatory friction between traditional autonomous bodies and state-level developmental agencies.
According to reports by EastMojo, the state's latest directive specifically mandates that the autonomous council restore all confiscated construction inventory and machinery, signaling a firm push by authorities to clear obstacles and resume development on the stalled infrastructure venture.
With the state exerting its authority to clear the path for resumption, stakeholders anticipate renewed momentum on the project, though further negotiations between traditional institutions and state planners may be necessary to ensure long-term stability.
