Manipur Police Nab 17 Impersonating Kuki SoO Cadres, Seize 24 Arms at Sinai Camp

Manipur police on Saturday detained 17 individuals allegedly posing as registered Suspension of Operations cadres at the Sinai camp of Kuki militant groups, seizing 24 firearms in a coordinated crackdown. The arrests, made in Imphal jurisdiction, mark a significant escalation in the state's ongoing battle against militant impersonation and illicit armament.
The Suspension of Operations framework, brokered between the Indian government and various Kuki insurgent factions, has long served as a delicate ceasefire mechanism aimed at reducing violence in Manipur's volatile border districts. However, the infiltration of fake cadres has increasingly undermined the accord's credibility, prompting security agencies to intensify verification drives and crackdowns on unauthorized elements exploiting the truce.
As reported by Nagaland Post correspondent based in Imphal, the operation was executed following tip-offs and sustained surveillance by the Manipur Police Special Task Force. A senior police officer stated that the arrested suspects would be produced before a magistrate, while civil society groups warned that such impersonation threatens the fragile peace process and could provoke retaliatory actions among militant ranks.
Legal proceedings against the detained individuals are expected to commence shortly, with charges likely ranging from criminal impersonation to violations of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act. Analysts suggest the crackdown may prompt a review of SoO monitoring protocols, potentially reshaping how ceasefire agreements are verified and enforced across India's Northeast region.
