Telangana Unveils Major Leather Industry Overhaul with Gachibowli CFC and Karimnagar Tanneries

HYDERABAD — In a decisive push to modernize and expand the state's manufacturing footprint, the Telangana administration announced plans to establish a specialized Common Facility Centre (CFC) in Gachibowli alongside a cluster of sustainable tanneries in Karimnagar. The comprehensive development strategy, finalized during a high-level administrative review, aims to transform the regional leather ecosystem by integrating advanced infrastructure with eco-conscious production methods.
This initiative arrives as part of a broader push to rejuvenate traditional manufacturing sectors in southern India, moving beyond raw material extraction toward high-value finished goods. Historically, the leather segment has faced challenges regarding modernization, environmental compliance, and global market integration, prompting regional authorities to intervene with targeted structural support.
According to reports by The Hindu, Industries and Commerce Minister D. Sridhar Babu detailed the strategic blueprint during deliberations with top executives from the Telangana State Leather Industries Promotion Corporation (TGLIPC). The minister emphasized that the new Gachibowli facility would directly assist local artisans and enterprises with cutting-edge design engineering, rapid product prototyping, and international branding strategies, while the Karimnagar project is slated to prioritize green manufacturing.
Looking ahead, the upcoming tanneries in Choppadandi mandal are expected to generate roughly 1,000 direct and indirect jobs, significantly bolstering the local economy in Karimnagar. State officials will soon initiate land allocation and environmental clearance processes, signaling a robust phase of execution aimed at positioning Telangana as a competitive hub for sustainable leather exports.
