- The move signals a definitive evolution from budget services to capturing high-yield international corporate travelers.
NEW DELHI — In a historic departure from its traditional low-cost operational model, Indian carrier IndiGo announced plans to install lie-flat business class cabins across its forthcoming widebody and long-haul fleet, starting with its initial Airbus A350 deliveries scheduled for the second quarter of 2028.
This strategic pivot represents a profound evolution for the domestic aviation giant, which has historically commanded the Indian skies through a strict no-frills, single-class seating arrangement. By incorporating premium cabins into its future widebody inventory, the airline aims to capture lucrative corporate and long-haul international traffic currently dominated by legacy global carriers.
According to reports by The Hindu, airline leadership confirmed that the initial batch of ten widebody jets will each incorporate 16 executive flat beds, with subsequent A350 arrivals potentially scaling up the premium capacity. Furthermore, leadership noted that upcoming XLR aircraft variants will likewise feature the upgraded lie-flat amenities.
