DRI Intercepts Bus in Hyderabad, Seizes Methamphetamine Valued at Over Rs 1 Crore

Federal anti-smuggling authorities intercepted a passenger transport vehicle arriving from Bhopal into Hyderabad, confiscating a substantial consignment of synthetic narcotics estimated to be worth Rs 1.1 crore on the illicit market. Operating on actionable intelligence, agents from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Hyderabad Zonal Unit executed the targeted intercept, conducting a meticulous sweep of the bus immediately upon its arrival at the destination.
This high-stakes seizure underscores the persistent vulnerability of long-distance passenger transit systems, which transnational and domestic cartels increasingly exploit to move illicit substances undetected. Over recent years, federal and state enforcement agencies have intensified surveillance along key interstate corridors connecting central India to southern metropolitan hubs, responding to a noticeable escalation in synthetic drug trafficking.
According to reports by The Hindu, the operation reflects heightened vigilance by intelligence units operating within the region. Law enforcement officials emphasized that systematic intelligence-gathering remains critical in disrupting complex supply chains that rely on commercial passenger networks to bypass traditional highway checkpoints.
In the wake of the operation, federal investigators are pursuing active leads to identify the primary sources in Madhya Pradesh and the intended recipients in Telangana. Further legal proceedings and expanded sweeps are anticipated as authorities work to dismantle the entire trafficking syndicate responsible for dispatching the consignment.
