Delhi SIR: Aadhaar Insufficient as Booth Level Officers Demand Direct Proof of Citizenship for Flagged Voters
Booth Level Officers across the national capital are reportedly instructing Electoral Registration Officers to demand supplemental citizenship documentation from electors flagged under no mapping notices. This shift moves beyond traditional identity papers like Aadhaar, sparking intense scrutiny regarding verification protocols.

- Aadhaar cards are no longer considered standalone proof for specific electors flagged during recent verification drives in Delhi.
- Field officials state they are directed to request supplementary documents to dispel allegations involving foreign national status.
- The directive has raised significant questions regarding the standard operating procedures implemented by electoral registration authorities.
NEW DELHI — Electoral authorities managing the Special Intensive Revision in the national capital have instructed field personnel to demand concrete proof of citizenship from select voters, rendering standalone identification documents like Aadhaar insufficient for certain flagged profiles.
This development stems from recent administrative notices issued to electors categorized under no mapping lists. Traditionally, standard identification papers sufficed for routine electoral roll updates, but the latest directives require individuals to substantiate their nationality explicitly, driven by concerns over unauthorized residency.
According to investigative reporting by The Hindu, grassroots administrators known as Booth Level Officers revealed that higher-ranking Electoral Registration Officers explicitly asked them to re-verify households. Field workers were reportedly told to investigate whether targeted citizens might be undocumented migrants from neighboring countries, adding a sensitive layer to routine bureaucratic tasks.
