Tom Hanks Revives David S. Pumpkins and Nicki Minaj Makes Surprise Cameo During SNL Halloween Cold Open

NEW YORK — Studio 8H delivered a star-studded holiday surprise over the weekend as legendary actor Tom Hanks made a triumphant return to Saturday Night Live on Halloween night, resurrecting his bizarre and wildly popular lounge character, David S. Pumpkins. Broadcast live from New York City, the seasonal cold open quickly became a viral sensation by blending holiday mischief with sharp political satire.

The high-energy sketch heavily targeted the eccentricities of current political discourse, focusing particularly on campaign trail antics and unorthodox public remarks. Hanks, donned in his signature black suit covered in glowing orange pumpkins alongside his skeletal backup dancers, easily slipped back into the absurdist role that first captivated audiences years ago, cementing the character's status as a modern late-night television staple.

According to reports published by Variety, the segment elevated its cultural footprint through a surprise cameo by Grammy-winning artist Nicki Minaj, who added her own brand of star power to the comedic proceedings. Industry analysts noted that the convergence of A-list guest stars and biting political commentary remains a potent formula for the long-running NBC sketch comedy institution as it navigates another high-stakes broadcast season.

Looking ahead, this viral cold open is expected to set a high benchmark for the remainder of the autumn programming slate, driving substantial digital engagement and viewership for the network. As the political climate continues to provide rich material for late-night satire, observers anticipate further high-profile guest appearances and character returns in upcoming episodes of the flagship weekend series.
